WHAT CAN YOU DO?

The period of consultation has been extended to 31st March. The Environment Agency insist that this is a genuine consultation and that local views will be taken into account. But their preferred option will become part of the formal recommendation to the government unless those of us who disagree with it say so in such numbers that it cannot be ignored.
How? Write to the Environment Agency who are co-ordinating response on behalf of the authors. Mark your letter ‘Pagham to East Head Coastal Defence Strategy’
The address to write to is;
Environment Agency
Saxon House
Little High Street
Worthing
West Sussex
BN11 1DH

Email: pehcds@environment-agency.gov.uk

The Environment Agency have advised that all responses will be given equal weight whether they are on the form supplied or in a letter and whether from a resident or a visitor.

Also send your views to Chichester District Council
You will have noticed that the District Council is a co-author of the strategy. It is disappointing that they have been willing to support an option which has shown so little concern for the interests and welfare of local communities. Our elected representatives on the District Council should be left in no doubt about the strength of local feeling when they come to consider the recommendation of their officers to support the strategy.
Write to the Deputy Chief Executive of Chichester District Council and to your local Council member.

THE POINTS WE ADVISE YOU TO MAKE
1. To disagree with the proposal to remove all sea defences at East Head.

2. To support further work that is intended to preserve or limit damage to East Head and the wider
harbour, provided it is taken in measured steps, the effects of which are carefully monitored before
further actions are sanctioned.

3. To urge that meanwhile sea defences are repaired and maintained.

The new deadline is
31st March 2007
